Indeed.

Our guy said Donald Trump (the most cocained 80s-style capitalist this side of Patrick Bateman) enacted multiple things Bernie Sanders (democratic socialist) advocated for. This is the allegedly "intelligent" conservative on this board.

Like you said, it's all relative. I'd also consider you "intelligent" as far as radical leftists go, if it makes you feel better. Neither of you have competition which presents a particularly high bar to clear, at least not on this forum.

He did with tariffs. And you know it.

And he did with his rewrite of NAFTA , a tad.

You are angry because you know it's true.

Btw I am not a conservative. I am a rightwing libertarian.

That the problem with fascist , they think they are .

His takes on the American left it’s incredibly delusional.

At some point I think to myself people like you actually deserve real fascists destroying your lives, so you understand I wasn't one of them.

But I still hope for a minimum of decency on your side, acknowledging people like me are the first lien against actual fascism (like lockdowns were), while people like you will rubber stamp actual fascism if your job was a stake.

You would work for the trains to go on time to the concentration camps if it was your job for the department of transportation, the government ordered it, and if it meant paying your mortgage.

I wouldn't.

Indeed, Colonel Jessup. We can't handle the truth. We all should be thanking you for defending us from fascism rather than questioning the manner in which you provide such a defense.

Colonel Luciom uses words like "radical leftism," "Marxism," "communism". He uses these words as the backbone of a posting career spent inventing definitions. You use them as a punch line.

It wasn't. It was a formatting thing

Ofc politico isn't endorsing it.

But lol at you protecting behind "far left". If someone is pro Obama and says that mc Cain is a war criminal, that's the democratic party saying that he is a war criminal, not "the far left".

If someone who calls Obama a warmonger also calls mc Cain a war criminal, that would qualify under your exception. But that's not what happened.

If 30 millions of Obama voters are very leftists, the democratic party was ve

I am not who you think the "they" is in your sentence but if it is "the leftists" then you couldn't be more wrong.

There were no liberal leftists that I knew (including me) who had any criticism of John McCain as a person except for what he did in the 1980's with the banking scandal. But if I remember correctly he owned his mistake.

We (leftists) have always admired John McCain for his service to the country and especially because he had been a captive POW in Vietnam for years.

When a crowd member at one of his rallies trashed Obama by using the N word (if I remember correctly) McCain immediately said "No don't say that" or something like that continuing "Obama is a good person" again or something like that. I was incredibly impressed with McCain as a person and I was also very grateful that he chose to save Obamacare during the Trump administration's attempt to end it. I didn't vote for him and never would because I am a leftist. But I am never going to criticize him as a human being.

What it sounds like you are doing is trying to make the left somehow similar to the right. You have the Swift Boat guy back trying to take down Walz like he took down Kerry in 2004. And you are acting like Leftists would Swift Boat McCain. We might go after Trump if the right continues to pretend that Walz chose not to fight in Iraq instead of admitting that he had started his resignation process (by signing up to run for congress) before there was any knowledge of going to Iraq. Because Trump actually avoided the draft by pretending he had bone spurs. This was fairly common among the rich in NY during the draft.

I was not rich and I have no idea if I would have ended up in Canada or gone to fight in Vietnam but I was lucky. I did get my draft card and the draft ended before I had to report.

taxing tips sounds ******ed

In fact, IIRC, McCain's biggest and loudest critic of the last decade was renowned radical leftist and vociferous MSM defender Donald J. Trump.

Yes he criticized him from the left talking up what radical leftists used against him back in the day in 2008.

On interventionism in geopolitics in general, Trump is clearly to the left of Sanders (and for me, from the right, that's his biggest liability as I said many times)

Ah yes, that time the "radical leftists" mocked him for being a POW and said "we like soldiers who weren't captured", I remember it like it was yesterday.

Irony is the second line of defense against fascism, so I am glad I helped a bit on that anyway.

Now go get the bad guys, many of them are among your files, and help fixing western civilization after you had your well deserved laugh

They actually did, it was in the politico 2008 article I linked

Trump just took radical leftist takes from the time

it would be significantly better to just force businesses to pay fair wages. or put more money towards subsidizing childcare/free pre-school/school lunches/free college education and things service workers need that they would actually see real benefit from. not so lawyers and others could shift fees to "tips" for services and start loop holing.

"no tax on tips!" is one of those things that sounds good to idiots, and good on trump's team for thinking about it and using it. he certainly doesn't mean it in any way that would help actual normal people as seen by the Cruz proposal.

Alright, fair enough. I should have probably known that Trump stole his material from somewhere, and also that the Victor types would stoop that low.

It sounds so good to idiots that the Harris campaign jumped right on it!

Btw you are right that a provision is required to avoid other people starting taking "tips".

Which is why you can write the law to exempt tips only in sectors which had tips as a significant percentage of salary in say 2022 or whatever. You are the law guy you can think about how to write it better than me.

Be helpful though, why the negativity ?Harris is in favour so it must be correct

FYI in the UK tips are treated just the same as any other income so are taxed in the same way.

This is the incident you are remembering.

Our politics have deteriorated a bit in the intervening period.

the negativity is because i dont trust any writing of a law to actually get through congress that actually only helps people that would need it to go through.

Harris is also saying it because it sounds good. although her position is slightly different than trumps. her's is estimated to cost 100 billion compared to trumps 250 billion because she somewhat attempted to narrow it to just people that need relief.

if we're going to go populist to help real people. i'd prefer a much stronger Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. similar to biden admin announcing that they are going to try and force subscription services to allow you to cancel with one click. and preventing Banks and financial institutions from "doom-looping" you.(preventing you from ever talking to real people by switching you back and forth from automated responses to AI tools).

As I said, I don't love this proposal no matter who supports it. But I don't expect lawyers and bankers to start characterizing part of their income as tips. That isn't the problem.

FYI in the UK tips are treated just the same as any other income so are taxed in the same way.

I tip generously because I have a lot of empathy for taxi drivers, waiters, etc., but in a perfect world, the price of the ride or the meal would be significantly increased, the increase would flow directly through to the driver, waiter, etc. in the form of increased wages, and tipping would be greatly reduced or eliminated.

It would make things much easier for customers, tax filers, and tax authorities.

His wife Carol had been severely injured by an automobile accident in December 1969. She was then four inches shorter, in a wheelchair or on crutches, and substantially heavier than when he had last seen her. [...] In April 1979, McCain met Cindy Lou Hensley, a teacher from Phoenix, Arizona, whose father had founded a large beer distributorship. They began dating, and he urged his wife, Carol, to grant him a divorce, which she did in February 1980; the uncontested divorce took effect in April 1980.
