Ukraine-Russia War Take 2

Ukraine-Russia War Take 2

Here is what the preliminary take on the Ukraine thread disappearing is:

The site was hit with a massive spam attack where hundreds of spam threads were created. In the case where, for example, I see a single spam thread and delete it, that is called a soft delete, and mods can still see them but forum members cannot. Those deletion can be undone.

When a massive attack hits with hundreds of threads, an admin uses a different procedure where the hundreds of spam threads are merged and then hard deleted, where the threads are gone, and no note is left behind. As I have mentioned with my own experience of just soft deleting a large number of posts, sometimes a post or thread gets checked or merged accidentally and is deleted by mistake. Dealing with hundreds of spam threads takes a sledgehammer, not a scalpel.

It appears that our Ukraine thread may have gotten caught up in that recent net of spam threads. If so, it is likely gone for good. I cant say this for sure, and am awaiting comments from admins on this issue. Yes, this sucks. And hopefully there was some other software glitch that caused the disappearance, and we may recover it in the future.

But in the meantime, I have created this new Ukraine-Russia War thread to enable the conversation to continue. Obviously continuity with earlier discussions will be lost. There is no way around that. So as best as possible, let's pick up the conversation with recent events and go from there.

If you have any questions about this, please post them in the mod thread, not here. Let's keep this thread going with posts about the war, not the disappearance of the old thread.

Thanks.

Im sure there will be condemnation

does Russia have a right to defend itself?

Sure. I think they should completely pack up and leave Ukraine and send all their military strength back to Russia to defend itself.

The BBC reported earlier that Ukraine is now holding more land inside Russia than the Russians are holding inside Ukraine. (Remarkable if true.) The Russian governor of Belgorod region, to the east of the incursion, has declared an emergency. The Ukrainians claim to have advanced another 1-2 kilometres today, taken 100 Russian PoWs and shot down a Russian Su-34 Fullback bomber last night. Reporters in the area have seen Ukrainian 'tanks' --

Falling right into Putin's trap. Checkmate

I think they are allowed to do genocide now. I dont make the rules tho.

Shouldn't you condemn their use of conscripts, suggest they give up Kursk and sue for peace and hint that their refusal to do so suggests that Russia not really the ones making decisions?

Calls for consistent logic aside, when it comes to "defending themselves", Russia can end this war whenever they want to, as has been the case since the start of their invasion.

yes ofc, as Ive said from day 1, but should Israel do that as well?

If Israel could trade land for peace, it would be in their best interests. Unfortunately, that option isn't available to them though.

I guess Russia feels the same way. I however, oppose a Gaza style war on civilians as retribution for raiding into Russian land. I hope Putin is more reasonable than the West and its leaders.

In battlefield you mostly learn how to survive. The idea that there's some level 50 soldiers vs level 1 soldiers and it somehow will be a bloodbath is not true.

Now if the troops are poorly equipped, logistics doesn't work (no food, ammo), incompetent leadership, poorly trained or unmotivated then it's a different story.

If the new meat has the same training, leadership, equipment and the same logistics as the "veterans" I don't think the dif

All of Russias good soldiers are dead. Or most of them

Ukraine keeps making more and more

It’s over for Russia

you're delusional lol

The issue with using your men as canon fodder is that it kills morale and you don’t gain combat XP while giving the other side lots of it.

It’s over for Russia.

Ukraine controls the skies and the borders. GG

You're straining to draw a false equivalency. One of the many differences between these two conflicts is that Putin can trade someone else's land for peace.

Israel can give back the West Bank and Gaza which is not theirs.

They already gave back Gaza. But then the Gazans went into Israel on a murder spree, and kidnapped people and dragged them back into their tunnels.

Lol, good one.

thats funny bc the International Court just ruled a few weeks ago that Israel had been illegally occupying Gaza for years and ordered them to pay reparations.

just like Russia illegally occupied parts of Ukraine and was just attacked across the border.

Why am I not surprised by who is attacking Ukraine's right to defend itself by fight back at the country invading them? Gonna need some citations on the genocide that Ukraine is undergoing in Russia, please compare it to the denied genocide of Russia against Ukrainians. Almost reads verbatim like the Russian propaganda coming out, what a coincidence. Even more of a coincidence that this is the 500000000th time this has happened.

I don't think Ukraine gained as much territory from this as Russia did during the war, that is likely only going to be true for a short amount of time, probably since the counteroffensive failed or something like that. It's also extremely misleading imo. Ukraine's ability to hold much, or any, of what they've taken is extremely questionable at the moment.

Attacking Ukraine for defending itself is peak hypocrisy

thats wrong they don't hold more area. I think the headline is they took more then Russia took in the last year. they did not take an area 1/3rd the size of ukraine. its a big acheivement but you said it urself "they took 1-2kms today" 1-2kms is not a lot sounds like a bad day tbh

Ya I dont follow this logic "all the good solders are dead". if anything Russia did poorly at the start and are doing better now (in actual combat not ******ed blunders) "good soldiers" are made from experience

Most of Russia's good soldiers are dead or being hoarded in rear positions. The ones going up front now to "gain experience" aren't gaining relevant experience. The skill level required to be cannon fodder maxes out pretty quickly.

russia had some ok and some good soldiers

those soldiers were used and died long ago

as of now russia has lost over 600k people

They have been using their people to deplete enemy ammo supplies aka cannon fodder

I dont think they are doing better now. I think they are depleted now and lack good troops with combat experience

I also just heard on tiktok that the ukranian incursion is to destroy anti air stuff

makes sense to me

you know the same is true for the other side right. where do you get your numbers? its not 600k. If there was 600k dead Russians the country would probably have already collapsed or at least needed a draft. Your probably quoting casualty numbers. The fact you dont know the difference between a kia and a casualty says alot about your knowledge on the war. Those numbers would also include a decent percentage of Ukrainians from donbas and luhansk fighting for russia.

the accepted ratio of dead is one quarter of all casualties, missing and wounded. So 462,000 would mean roughly 120 000 dead. Those are closer to the numbers. I have seen estimates as high as 150k

I wish this thread was more informative to the horrible loss of life on both sides then a proxie middle east debate.

Just tonight alone we have someone saying Ukraine took more territory this week then Russia has the entire war and someone thinking casualties mean kia
