it's absurd for people to say americans are stupid and that's perfectly acceptable but the minute i say chinese are stupid that's a banworthy offense - mind you it was brought up specifically in response to "americans are so dumb and chinese are smarter"

tranny is not a slur - there are some people who feel like it may be, but they are not arbiters of the meanings of words - just the same way that colored or negro or to borrow from the thread, leftist may be seen as a slur by some in the thread but it is surely not

Rick I don’t want you to be banned, but yeah that is a slur and I’m not sure why you’re debating it. The n word is still a slur even if it’s used in very popular rap songs. Pointing to artistic uses of a slur isn’t a very good argument for it not being a slur.

but it's absolutely not a slur, it was the preferred way to address them until just a few years ago

the same people who say it's a slur are the same people who call ladyboy a slur, all that despite that ladyboys in asia call themselves ladyboy, they don't use the word trans, they use the word ladyboy - if you call them trans or call them a woman they'll correct you - "no i'm not a woman, i'm not trans, i'm a ladyboy"

yet you'll find idiots who have never even been to asia but take issue with how actual trans people in asia refer to themselves

it's just idiotic and i'm not going to bend reality just because some 16 year olds without passports have decided what words are bad and which aren't

and importantly, i know plenty of trans people who use the word tranny

obviously there's something to be said about the fact that the 65 year old guy who says something negative to the trans person walking down the street is going to use the tranny variation because that's the older word of their generation - so from that it can have some negative connotations but it's still not a slur and i'll die on that hill
